41. EMAJÕE MARATHON

INSTRUCTION 2023

Emajõe Maraton is back, already for the 41st time! 

The marathon regulations, established by the organizing committee, include rules that are mandatory for participants, supporters, coaches, and representatives at this event. The Emajõe Marathon will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

The starting point of the main distance is at the mouth of Lake Võrtsjärv (known as Jõesuu). The distance runs along the Emajõgi River to Tartu, to the Boat Bridge of the Tartu Rowing and Canoeing Club "Tartu" (Ranna tee 3, Tartu).


DISTANCES:

Main distance: 56 km - mass start in Jõesuu at 10:00 AM. 

Half marathon: 37 km - mass start in Reku at 12:00 PM. 

Mini marathon: 18 km - mass start under Kärevere Bridge at 2:00 PM. 

Cut-off time for completing the main distance is 9 hours, for the half marathon is 7 hours, and for the mini marathon is 5 hours. The finish line will be open until 7:00 PM. 

Depending on the number of participants, the organizer reserves the right to modify the start arrangements (e.g., wave start).


REGISTRATION

1. Registration is available on the website https://www.emajoemaraton.ee/registration.
2. Registration can be done until August 20, 2023, at 23:59 based on payment of the entry fee.
3. On-site registration on August 26, 2023, is only possible if there are available spots and will be conducted in cash, depending on the organizer's capacity.
4. During on-site registration, the organizer cannot guarantee simultaneous service for all interested participants. Pre-registered participants will be prioritized during the distribution of race numbers, which may result in a delay for on-site registrants to start.

PAYMENT

Online registration and payment are possible until August 20th on the registration page. On the day of the marathon, on-site registration is possible, depending on available spots, and payment can be made in cash only.



START AERA PROCEDURES

  1. For the main distance start in Jõesuu, race materials will be distributed from September 17, 2022, starting at 9:00 AM. On-site registration will close 10 minutes before the start at 9:50 AM.
  2. For the half marathon start in Reku, race materials will be distributed from September 17, 2022, starting at 11:00 AM. On-site registration will close 10 minutes before the start at 11:50 AM. 
  3. For the mini marathon start near Kärevere Bridge, race materials will be distributed from September 17, 2022, starting at 1:00 PM. On-site registration will close 10 minutes before the start at 1:50 PM. 
  4. All starts will be given as a mass start based on the command at the specified times mentioned above, with a precision of up to +3 minutes. The organizer does not wait for latecomers and will give the start command even if some competing teams are still on shore. 
  5. Depending on the number of participants, the organizer may divide the participants of the main distance into starting groups. Participants will be informed about this shortly before the competition starts on-site. 
  6. After the start, the respective distance's competition center will be closed and relocated to the next starting point or the finish area. 
  7. The organizers are not responsible for equipment or vehicles left behind at the starting areas. We kindly ask participants to park their vehicles considerately, taking into account the needs of other traffic (not blocking others). 
  8. The organizer ensures the transportation of participants' personal belongings from the start to the finish, provided they are properly packed and labeled with the participant's name and boat number.

RULES

  1. To obtain a result, the team must visibly display the assigned race number throughout the entire marathon. The number should be affixed to the left side of the bow of the boat. All human-powered floating vehicles that ensure buoyancy in the event of capsizing are eligible to participate. In the event of capsizing, the participant must be capable of self-rescue, including the rescue of equipment. 
  2. The main distance of the marathon is scored for the boat classes mentioned in point 3 above. 
  3. The main distance is open to all rowing, paddling, and boating enthusiasts aged 18 and above, as well as water tourists who are adequately trained to complete the distance within the specified time limit. Participants under the age of 18 may only participate in the main distance if accompanied by a responsible adult competitor in the same boat. 
  4. For participants under the age of 18, written confirmation from a parent and/or coach is mandatory, stating that the competitor is capable of completing the marathon distance (able to complete the distance within the given time) and can independently assist themselves in case of capsizing. 
  5. Life jackets are mandatory for everyone, except for competitive athletes (rowers and paddlers) who engage in water sports on a daily basis, provided that their coach or representative has submitted a signed confirmation to the organizer regarding their swimming ability, which has been recorded by the organizer. 
  6. The organizer provides assistance based on the information received via phone at (+372 53555122). The information should include the location of the accident according to the legend mentioned above and the boat number of the involved party. The organizer is not responsible for boat collisions, capsizing, or the sinking or breaking of equipment. 
  7. Intentional littering in nature will result in disqualification from the competition. 8.10. The distance must be completed under one's own power without changing boats or teams. It is permitted to temporarily disembark from the boat for rest purposes. This activity is recommended for amateurs.

RESULTS AND AWARDS

  1. At the finish line, the organizer records the time of all participants. 
  2. All finishers receive the Emajõe Marathon participant MEDAL. 
  3. The results of finishing teams can be found during the competition and immediately after finishing online at the address: www.live.aerulaud.ee 
  4. Warm food is provided by the organizer at the finish line for all marathon finishers. 
  5. Protests will be resolved by the organizer on the condition that they are submitted in writing, accompanied by supporting evidence (video, photo, etc.), and with a deposit. The deposit amount is equal to the minimum participation fee for the respective distance. Protests will be resolved during the competition day.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. By registering for the Emajõe Marathon, the participant gives consent to the use of photos and filming taken during the event for promotional purposes. 
  2. In case of withdrawal from participation, the registration fee is non-refundable. 
  3. All expenses related to participant's travel and boat transportation are the responsibility of the participant. 
  4. The organizer is not liable for any lost or damaged items during the competition.

The organizer will address all undefined matters, including any questions and protests that may arise during the Emajõe Marathon, in accordance with good sportsmanship practices.
